Why should we care about women’s representation in video games?”
Nobody is going to want a female protagonist!
Their target audience isn’t big enough to warrant any games!”
Women aren’t as capable as men, they don’t belong in video games!”
If more women starting playing video games, maybe then they’d have a say in the matter!”

Claire Nathan was kicked out of a flight attendant job interview with Air New Zealand because she had visible Ta Moko - a traditional Maori tattoo. This is unapologetic discrimination.
After a review of their policy, Air New Zealand has decided to stand by their original decision as tattoos are intimidating, make Asian people uncomfortable in close quarters and everyone else is doing it.
My own opinion is that it’s a bit short-sighted and disappointing and highlights a certain hypocrisy given how much literal mileage the company has earned from trading off Māori culture and associated imagery over the years; their iconic koru logo, the plastic tikis, the “Polynesian Spectacular”. Not to mention my personal favourite, the TEAL* poster featuring a Māori taking a geyser up the nono

Air New Zealand is appropriating and commercialising the Maori culture and discriminating against other important aspects. Denying Maori people jobs because they have visible traditional tattoos means that that aspect of the culture will be lost. Not cool Air New Zealand.
Let me just add something to this.
The problem was that the Tattoos were visible, not that they were traditional Maori designs.
Moko are traditional Maori tattoos that links Maori with their whakapapa (that is genealogy, an important aspect to Maori culture) and they are ALWAYS VISIBLE.
So, saying that you cannot have any visible tattoos means that you can never have ta moko. That means that no one is going to be able to carry on that important cultural practice because they won’t be able to be employed. That means that another piece of Maori culture is going to die off. That is racism- systematic discrimination against a minority.
This is even worse because it is coming from an organisation that constantly commercialises and exploits said culture but when faced with the real deal, it destroys it.

“there’s nothing wrong with the video game community”
My fave is the “free market” one. A Libertarian making a misogynistic comment? Everybody do a shot!!!

Oh my god. ‘men will actually respect women more if they see women showing compassion to them’. If you want women to show you compassion, don’t fucking rape them.
If you need me I’ll be in the angry-dome.
You know, the first time I stab you in the face, it’s just me getting carried away. JESUS, HAVE SOME COMPASSION. You’re not DEAD or anything! It’s just a social misbehavior, GODDDDDDDDD.
And they wonder why we cheer when we hear about women beheading or otherwise disposing of their rapists. Why? Because society has decided we don’t deserve justice or compassion. Instead they worry about the poor rapists. Lord help me if I ever hear a dude say this in person because I may very well go after him with a fucking weapon.
Let’s have mercy for first-time murderers! They just got carried away!
Let’s have mercy for first-time bank robbers!
Mhm.

This is really important. We’ve all seen hundreds of Drug PSAs… how many times have we seen this?
Well played. I did a genuine double take.
Great campaign on bystander intervention/rape
Horrible realization about men creepshots gave me that actually has me in tears
It’s not about sex - they have porn, they have as much fucking porn as they could possibly ask for
they have billboards and ads and primetime tv shows and hollywood movies and websites free videos magazines they have porn channels porn movies with sexy images of women
they have girls on websites who are paid to webcam with them
there are girls who post sexy pics of themselves online for them
none of this is enough, none of this is, at the bottom of it all, what they want
creepshots specifically says this isn’t enough - they don’t want pics of girls knowingly posing (i.e. giving consent)
they want to violate, they want to rape, they want to own every woman walking down the fucking street
they want your teenager daughter, they want your mom, they want you
when you don’t know it, when you can’t say no, when you’re on the bus, when you’re walking down the street, when you’re at the beach
they get off on your violation, they want more proof that women exist for them and them alone
it’s sexy because it’s embarrassing, humiliating; they say it themselves
this is rape culture in its purest form
because women saying yes on screen, women saying yes to their faces, saying yes on their computers, on their phones is not what they want
that’s not “hot” enough
what’s hot is violating your consent, what’s hot is demeaning you, what’s hot is owning a piece of you against your will
and they won’t stop until we are all pornography
