This poster was posted by 40 Days for Life, a pro-life organization, on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Several Native American students took mobile pictures of the poster and posted them to their Facebook accounts in complete outrage. Dr. Tiffany Lee, a professor within the Native American Studies department at the University of New Mexico, emailed several scholars and students at the UNM campus to share her outrage. Several KIVA Club members, the Native American student organization on campus, shared their comments and will put the issue on their next meeting’s agenda.
The poster seems to have been posted by the organization’s Albuquerque chapter, which holds monthly prayers at the local Planned Parenthood. Several students have commented on the Albuquerque chapter’s Facebook wall but each comment have been deleted. The Native American students on campus are organizing for a ban of the organization from the campus and a letter drafted to be sent to the university’s student life office, the Albuquerque chapter, and the Daily Lobo. Native American Students from KIVA Club, Dine of UNM and the Native American Indigenous Research Group have all shared their feelings about the racist and demeaning poster.
I am writing to ask that you contact the Albuquerque chapter to share your outrage as well. This information was taken from the Albuquerque’s chapter website:
